In early 2003 Dilla was a seasoned professional, a highly sought after producer of restrained, soulful hip hop, who found himself in the middle of a collapsing solo album deal with major label MCA. Never one to sit around and wait, he responded with “Ruff Draft” – an uncompromising, rugged, delaration of independence, which would later prove to be a turning point in his career. This indie vinyl-only joint would be out of print by the year’s end, but we know you’ve heard the f****d up MP3’s haven’t you? MARCH 20, 2007 Stones Throw will reissue “Ruff Draft” with bonus tracks, interludes, and instrumentals on double CD & LP.
